MP Congress leader Raja Pateria arrested over 'kill PM' remark

New Delhi: A day after explaining that his remark on PM Modi was picked out of context, Congress leader Raja Pateria was arrested from Hatta in Damoh early on Tuesday morning.

Police on Monday filed a case against the former Madhya Pradesh minister after he called for "killing Modi' to save the Constitution.

Pateria was addressing the Congress workers at Pawai town in Panna district when he made the controversial comment which he later claimed was picked out of context.

Footage showed him calling upon the Congress workers to be 'ready to kill Modi. Kill in the sense of defeating him', according to India Today.

Pateria was heard telling his workers that Modi would end elections, divide on the basis of religion, caste and language, adding that future of Dalit is in danger, before calling upon the Congress workers to " Kill Modi. Kill in the sense of defeating him".

The leader reportedly said the statement came about in the flow and the person who recorded it used it out of context.

As the controversy emerged, the BJP said the Congress party belongs to Mussolini and not Mahatma Gandhi.

The BJP leader from Madhya Pradesh, Narottam Mishra said he heard Pateria's statement, which clearly implied 'the Congress party does not belong to Mahatma Gandhi".

Narottam Mishra added that he was issuing an instruction to the SP to register an FIR against the Congress leader.
