New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Monday that the Opposition will not allow Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Home Minister Amit Shah to "attack" the Constitution of India. The Congress party strongly reacted to Modi's statement that Indira Gandhi declaring an Emergency was a 'black spot' in India's democracy. Tuesday, the 25th of June, marks the 50th anniversary of imposing an emergency across the country.
To Modi's statement, Congress national chief Mallikarjun Kharge gave a sharp response that when the country is expecting the Prime Minister to speak about protests surrounding NEET, the train accident in West Bengal or the continuing violence in Manipur, he is still talking about the 50-year-old Emergency.
He asked Modi whether he had forgotten the undeclared Emergency in the country for the last ten years. He said that the people have given a mandate against Modi, and the INDIA Opposition bloc will raise their voice inside and outside the Parliament.
During the Opposition's show of strength, Rahul Gandhi told the media that they would not allow Modi and Shah to attack the Constitution.
"This attack is not acceptable to us, and that is why we held the Constitution and took the oath. Our message is reaching the public, and no power can touch the Constitution of India, and we will protect it," NDTV quoted him.
Meanwhile, Congress leader KC Venugopal said that the INDIA bloc leaders swore into 18th Lok Sabha with Mahatma Gandhi's blessings.
He wrote on X, "The INDIA alliance enters the 18th Lok Sabha with Bapu's blessings and with a fresh resolve to give voice to people's issues, challenges, hopes and aspirations in Parliament and keep the government in check every single minute."
