New Delhi: Posters portraying Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi as a “real-life Batman” have appeared outside the Congress headquarters in Delhi, depicting him alongside the fictional superhero as a silent, watchful guardian.
The posters come amid a series of political developments involving Gandhi and protests over the alleged pellet injury suffered by Sahil Lochav during demonstrations at Jantar Mantar.
The Batman reference follows an Instagram interaction earlier this month, in which Gandhi participated in an “Ask Me Anything” session with students and young people. Asked about Batman, he made a playful reference to the fact that no one had seen him and Batman together in the same room. His remark subsequently triggered social media posts and memes comparing him with the superhero.
The posters appeared shortly after Gandhi staged a sit-in outside the Parliament Street police station on Friday, demanding an FIR over the alleged pellet injury to Lochav during the Jantar Mantar protests. Gandhi and other Congress leaders insisted that the case be registered before they would leave.
Delhi Police subsequently registered an FIR under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has constituted a five-member high-level expert panel to examine allegations of police excesses and violence by protesters during the demonstrations. Retired Supreme Court judge R. Subhash Reddy will head the panel.
Former Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Ravi Shanker Jha, former Delhi High Court judge Shalinder Kaur, former CBI director Rishi Kumar Shukla and former Meghalaya DGP L.R. Bishnoi are the other members.
