Bengaluru: Shorty after the reconvening of the Karnataka Legislative Council on Tuesday, it broke out into chaos. Deputy Chairman SL Dharmegowda took the chair causing Congress MLCs to manhandle him out of the chair.
This resulted in several marshals arriving and attempting to diffuse the situation. In addition to this, some BJP legislators began making an attempt to keep the Deputy Speaker, who was visibly struggling, in the chair. The ruckus began in response to the no-confidence motion the BJP introduced against the Chairman Prathap Chandra Shetty, who is a Congressmen. Congress legislators claimed that the Deputy Chairman had locked the Chairman out and forcibly occupied the Chair.
The video depicting the incident shows Naseer Ahmed and Narayana Swamy from Congress visibly pulling Dharmegowda out of the chair while he resisted the action. BJP MLCs are also seen trying to keep Dharmegowda in his seat. Several marshals were present and trying to resolve the conflict.
The council has since been adjourned sine die.
