Srinagar: In Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, two police officers were found dead inside a police vehicle which was bullet-ridden. Locals found the vehicle and dead officers inside, and they alerted authorities, according to reports.
The vehicle was found parked near Tawi Bridge in Domail, and the deceased officers were identified as Selection Grade Constable Mohammad Amin and Constable Anil Kumar.
Following inspection by the authorities, it was confirmed that both were killed by gunshots, and their service weapons were recovered from the scene. However, questions are on about the circumstances that led to their deaths, Deccan Chronicle (DC) reported.
A senior police officer said that both the deceased were shot at close range, but it is too early to determine whether the case is targeted killing or something else. An in-depth inquiry into the matter is going on, the official said.
It was learned that the area had been cordoned off, and forensic teams were examining the vehicle and its surroundings for evidence.
According to DC, officials have not ruled out any possibility of internal disputes or militant involvement. A Special Investigation Team has been formed to probe the case, while senior police officials, including the Inspector General of Police, have reached the site. The bodies were sent for post-mortem to detect the cause and timing of the death, DC reported.
