Jaisalmer: Six alleged illegal mosques, madrasa demolished near Indo-Pak border

Jaisalmer: The district administration in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district demolished six alleged illegal mosques and madrasa structures during an anti-encroachment drive in border areas near the India-Pakistan international boundary, officials said on Friday.

The action was carried out on Thursday under “Operation Clean” in the Nachna, Tanot and Shahgarh areas. Officials said the drive was conducted in villages including Mirpura, Hindolon Ki Dhani, Ahmadpura and Dhanana, where earthmovers were used in the presence of revenue, police and administrative personnel.

According to the administration, the structures had come up on government land, including plots reserved for families displaced by the Pong Dam project. The drive covered areas within about 50 km of the international border, with heavy security deployment in view of the sensitivity of the region.

Officials said the operation resumed after the Jodhpur bench of the Rajasthan High Court, in an order dated July 13, dismissed petitions challenging eviction notices and show-cause notices issued to religious institutions in the border belt. The court observed that national security was of paramount importance.

The demolition exercise passed off peacefully, with no law-and-order trouble reported.
