Hyderabad: Following intervention by AIMIM national spokesperson Waris Pathan, an FIR has been registered in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district after a Muslim imam was allegedly surrounded by a group of men and forced to chant “Jai Shri Ram”.
The cleric, identified as Hafiz Qasam from Marul village in Yawal taluka, had travelled to Parola village to lead prayers. According to Pathan, Qasam was stopped by four to five men while returning home and was compelled to raise the slogans. The incident was recorded and the video was later shared on social media, Siasat Daily reported.
Pathan said the matter was brought to the attention of senior police officials and that efforts were made to ensure a formal complaint was filed. He confirmed that an FIR had subsequently been registered against those allegedly involved.
A video later emerged showing one of the accused individuals issuing an apology for hurting the sentiments of the Muslim community. The apology appeared after the incident drew public attention and police action followed.
The incident has drawn attention to a broader pattern of reported cases across India where Muslim men, including religious leaders, educators and workers, have been targeted by vigilante groups and pressured to recite religious slogans through intimidation or force.
