Chandigarh: Haryana Police faced public backlash after Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dinesh Kumar was seen in a viral video deploying a JCB machine to remove vegetable vendors from a road in Bahadurgarh.
The incident, which took place in Patel Nagar following complaints of road encroachment, drew criticism for the method used. ACP Kumar, a former international boxer, was filmed instructing the JCB operator to clear the vendors, prompting outrage on social media.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Mayank Mishra described the action as “an individual lapse of judgement” and confirmed that the officer has been advised to exercise greater caution in future. He clarified that while the intent was to address public complaints, the approach did not align with departmental policy.
Director General of Police O P Singh also took cognisance of the matter and discussed it with senior officials, including the DCP and Commissioner of Police, Jhajjar.
“This is not the department’s policy. It is an individual lapse of judgment for which he has been asked to remain cautious in future,” Mishra said in a video statement.
