Haryana to make yoga questions mandatory in government job exams; plans to introduce yoga in school curriculum

Chandigarh: The Haryana government will make questions on yoga compulsory in all government recruitment exams, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced on the occasion of International Yoga Day at a state-level event in Panchkula.

Under the decision, the Haryana Staff Selection Commission and the Haryana Public Service Commission will include yoga-related questions as a mandatory component of all competitive examinations for state government jobs. The state will amend its examination policy to implement the change, the chief minister said. He added that the requirement will apply in addition to employment tests, and the government also plans to make yoga part of school education.

From the current academic year, yoga will be officially included in the curriculum for class 8, and introduced in classes 3 to 9 in the coming academic year, the government said. Physical education teachers will receive training to facilitate yoga instruction in schools.

The chief minister also said the state will recognise yoga as a sports discipline under its sports policy and rename sports departments in higher education institutions as the "Department of Sports and Yoga."
