Faridabad: A 20-year-old terror accused, Abdul Rehman, lodged in Neemla Jail for his alleged involvement in a conspiracy to carry out an explosion in Ayodhya, was stabbed to death by a fellow inmate during a brawl on Monday, police said.
The murder is reportedly the work of another prisoner, Arun Chaudhary, who was recently transferred from Jammu and Kashmir, officials said. The incident occurred around 2:00 am in Chakki No. 2 of Security Ward 3B, near Barrack No. 3. During a heated altercation, Chaudhary allegedly used a sharp-edged weapon to kill Rehman on the spot.
A third inmate, Soeb Riaz, was present during the attack but was allegedly threatened with death by Chaudhary, a senior police officer said.
Yashpal Yadav, Faridabad police spokesperson, confirmed that a murder case has been registered against Arun Chaudhary at the Sadar Ballabgarh police station following a letter from the Faridabad District Jail administration. “Chaudhary already faces murder and attempt-to-murder charges in eight cases across Jammu and Amritsar. He was transferred from Kathua to Neemla Jail in October 2024. The matter is under investigation,” he added.
Rehman, a resident of Milkipur in Uttar Pradesh’s Faizabad, had been in custody since June 2025. He was arrested in March that year from Pali village near Faridabad by a joint team of the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad and Haryana Special Task Force (STF). At the time of his arrest, authorities recovered two hand grenades and two mobile phones. An FIR against him was filed at Dabua Police Station in Faridabad.
Haryana STF sources said Rehman was allegedly supported by a sleeper cell providing hand grenades, which were later defused by bomb disposal squads. Incriminating videos were also reportedly found on his mobile phones, some of which he had shared with a terror outfit. Officials alleged Rehman was involved in a plot to carry out an explosion in Ayodhya and suspected links with Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI. His parents, however, denied any involvement in terror activities.
The accused, Arun Chaudhary, also known as Abbu Jat, hails from RS Pura in Jammu. He had gained notoriety following the murder of Akshay Sharma, a Samba resident, and was arrested after an encounter in Punjab in 2023. Initially lodged in Kathua Jail, Chaudhary was transferred to Haryana in October 2024 after he went live on social media from inside jail, alleging bribes were taken by staff to provide inmates with mobile phones and other facilities.
The murder inside a high-security ward has raised serious questions about prison surveillance and inmate safety. A jail official said, “An internal investigation is underway to determine if the murder was linked to Rehman’s legal cases or stemmed from a personal rivalry.”
