Gangster Anmol Bishnoi sent back to India after US deportation

Mumbai: Gangster Anmol Bishnoi, a key suspect in the killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique, is being deported from the United States, police officials said on Tuesday. He is expected to reach Delhi on Wednesday.

Bishnoi is also wanted in connection with the April 2024 firing outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence. Mumbai Police said they had submitted two proposals for his extradition, noting that multiple cases are registered against him across the country. The Union government will decide which agency takes custody first.

Investigating agencies had earlier received information that Bishnoi, who frequently travelled between the US and Canada, had been detained in Canada. Officials said he was carrying a Russian passport obtained using forged documents.

Zeeshan Siddique, son of Baba Siddique, told PTI he had received an email confirming Bishnoi had been “removed” from the US. “This means he is not in the United States and should be brought to India and tried for his crimes,” the former MLA said.

Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister, was shot dead on 12 October 2024 outside his son’s office in Bandra. Several members of the gang led by Lawrence Bishnoi, Anmol’s elder brother who is currently in prison, were arrested in connection with the killing.
