New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday arrested Anmol Bishnoi, the brother and close aide of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, after he was deported from the United States to India, officials said.
Anmol, wanted in several high-profile crimes, including the killing of Nationalist Congress Party leader Baba Siddique, the firing at actor Salman Khan’s Mumbai residence in April 2024, and the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, was “removed” from the US on Tuesday. He had been detained there since November last year.
Absconding since 2022, the US-based Anmol is the 19th accused to be arrested in connection with the terror syndicate allegedly operated by Lawrence Bishnoi.
An NIA spokesperson said Anmol was chargesheeted in March 2023 after the agency’s investigation found that he had “actively aided” designated terrorist Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi in carrying out multiple acts of terrorism in India between 2020 and 2023.
According to the NIA, Anmol continued to run terror syndicates and orchestrate criminal operations from the US for the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, using ground operatives in India. The probe also revealed that he provided shelter and logistical support to the gang’s shooters and operatives.
“He was also engaged in extortion in India from foreign soil with the help of other gangsters,” the spokesperson said, adding that the investigation is ongoing as part of the agency’s efforts to dismantle the nexus between terrorists, gangsters, and arms smugglers, including their infrastructure and funding networks.
