New York: The Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi told a gathering of Indian community in Dallas, US that after the BJP failed to get majority in Lok Sabha polls, people lost their fear of PM Modi and the saffron party, India Today reported.
Rahul Gandhi is on a three-day visit the country as part of the Congress’ outreach effort, which includes interaction with university students, US lawmakers and members of Indian community.
Rahul Gandhi said that within minutes of the election result 'the fear of the BJP vanished’, adding that the outcome was not a victory for his party but it reflected of the people’s will.
The Congress leader said that people stood up to what he said the government’s attempts to undermine the Constitution, adding that ‘We are not going to accept an attack on our religion, on our state.’
Attacking the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), he said the outfit believes India is ‘one idea’, adding but India is a ‘multiplicity of Ideas’, which is about participation of people regardless of caste, religion, language or tradition, according to the report.
He said millions of people in India understood PM Modi was attacking the Constitution of India, adding that his message struck a chord with the public during the election campaign.
The Rae Bareli MP claimed that people understood that attack on the Constitution was an attack on ‘our religious tradition’.
Rahul Gandhi said that he wanted to infuse values of love, respect and humility into Indian politics.
