New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged on Wednesday that every sixth BJP MP in the Lok Sabha won their seat through "vote chori" (vote theft), questioning if they should be dubbed "ghuspethiya" (infiltrators) in the BJP's own terms.
In a Hindi post on X, the Leader of Opposition claimed: "Of the 240 BJP MPs in the Lok Sabha, roughly every sixth MP secured seat through vote chori. They are not hard to identify – should we, in the BJP’s own parlance, label them ‘ghuspethiya’? And what of Haryana? There, the entire government itself is an ‘ghuspethiya’."
Gandhi accused the BJP of manipulating institutions to rig voter lists and elections, branding them "remote-controlled". He added: "Their real fear is the truth. For if fair elections were to be held, they would not be able to win even 140 seats today."
The remarks follow Gandhi's Tuesday post calling BJP victories in Bengal and Assam a "theft" of mandates, advancing the saffron party's "mission to destroy Indian democracy".
He urged restraint over TMC's defeat: "Some in the Congress, and others, are gloating about TMC’s loss. They need to understand this clearly – the theft of Assam and Bengal’s mandate is a big step forward by the BJP in its mission to destroy Indian democracy." BJP ousted Trinamool in Bengal and secured a third term in Assam on Monday.
