Dr. Ambedkar visited RSS 'shakha' in 1940, says it's communication wing

Nagpur: Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, had visited a 'shakha' (local unit) of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Maharashtra 85 years ago, according to a claim made by the communication wing of the Sangh on Thursday.

During his visit, Dr. Ambedkar reportedly expressed a sense of belongingness towards the RSS, despite having differences on certain issues.

The Vidarbha Prant of the Vishwa Samvad Kendra (VSK), the communication wing of the RSS, issued a statement on Thursday confirming the visit and shared details of Dr. Ambedkar's address.

On January 2, 1940, Dr. Ambedkar visited the RSS shakha in Karad, located in Satara district, where he addressed the Sangh swayamsevaks (volunteers). In his address, Dr. Ambedkar was quoted saying, "Although there are differences over certain issues, I look at the Sangh with a sense of belongingness."

A report covering Dr. Ambedkar's visit to the RSS shakha was published on January 9, 1940, in "Kesari," a Marathi daily based in Pune, which was also referenced in the VSK's statement, along with a clipping of the original news.
