New Delhi: Amid a row over the alleged manhandling of the Congress workers during Wednesday's protests in Delhi, a new video has emerged which shows the party MP from Tamil Nadu alleging that she was assaulted by the Delhi Police personnel.
The video was shared by Congress' senior party leader Shashi Tharoor. In the video, Jothimani said that the Delhi Police tore her clothes and carried her like a criminal in a bus along with other women protesters.
She also alleged that the police refused to give them water.
Sharing the video, Shashi Tharoor wrote that this is outrageous in any democracy and to deal with a woman protestor like this violates every Indian standard of decency, but to do it to a LokSabha MP is a new low. Tharoor further said that he condemns the conduct of the Delhi Police and demands accountability. He also requested speaker Om Birla to act on this.
The Congress MP is seen wearing only one shoe in the video.
"The Delhi police brutally assaulted us yesterday. They tore my clothes, removed my shoes and carried me like a criminal," she said.
As Rahul Gandhi appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for the third consecutive day on Wednesday for questioning in connection with a money laundering case relating to the National Herald newspaper, party leaders and workers continued their protests against what they called the "vendetta politics" of the ruling BJP.
Several Congress workers were detained from outside the party headquarters and the probe agency's office. The Congress also shared a video on its official Twitter account which showed the women protesters being dragged and taken in buses.
Top party leaders including KC Venugopal, Bhupesh Baghel, and Randeep Surjewala, Tuesday, said that the police also barged into the party headquarters from where they detained workers and leaders.
The Delhi police, however, have denied the Congress claims.
