Kota: In a matter of a Congress leader making remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a court here in Rajasthan ordered the Kota Superintendent of Police (City) to appear before it with a copy of the FIR filed against the leader or face contempt of court, PTI reported.
However, the Kota (City) Police filed a revision petition in the court of the district judge and challenged the order of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) court stating that the Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa made the remarks at Jaipur and not in Kota. Therefore it did not fall under the Kota Police's jurisdiction.
But, the court verbally directed the police officers to present themselves before it with a copy of the FIR against Randhawa on May 23.
The incident regarding the case happened on March 13, when Randhawa said that if Adani and Ambani had to be removed, PM Modi needed to be finished first. The comment had invited flak from BJP factions.
Following that BJP's state general secretary and MLA from Ramganj Mandi, Dilawar, filed a complaint against Randhawa at the Mahaveer Nagar Police Station on March 18 accusing him of making hate speech against PM Modi and of instigating his murder.
According to his complaint, Randhawa damaged the integrity and unity of the nation and attempted to spark violence and enmity among people. Dilawar demanded that the Congress leader must be charged with sedition, provocation with intent to cause a riot and other sections of the Indian Penal Code. He moved them to ACJM after the city police refused to register a case against Randhawa.
