Complaint filed against Prakash Raj over remarks on Hindu deities, Ramayana

A criminal complaint has been filed against actor Prakash Raj before a court in Tirupati over remarks he allegedly made about Hindu deities and the Ramayana during public events earlier this year.

The complaint was submitted on Monday before the IV Additional Judicial Magistrate of First Class by G. Bhanuprakash Reddy, a BJP leader and member of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Trust Board.

The case relates to comments allegedly made by Prakash Raj during the Kerala Literature Festival and other public appearances, Maktoob Media reported.

In his complaint, Reddy said he had seen a video circulating on social media on April 17 in which the actor allegedly made remarks about Lord Rama, Lakshmana and the Ramayana. He claimed that the statements were “derogatory,” “inflammatory,” and “malicious” and intended to hurt religious sentiments.

The complainant alleged that the remarks insulted Hindu beliefs, affected religious harmony and had the potential to disturb public peace. He sought legal action against the actor over the alleged comments.

The complaint comes amid continued criticism of Prakash Raj on social media over his public views. The actor has frequently expressed opinions on political issues, including criticism of the Union government, majoritarian politics and debates surrounding freedom of expression.
