The controversy surrounding The Kerala Story 2 intensified after actor Prakash Raj posted an indirect response on social media following remarks by the film’s director Kamakhya Narayan Singh, who described him as intellectually bankrupt.
On Monday, Prakash Raj shared a post on X listing different food preferences, including vegans, vegetarians, ovo-vegetarians, and various categories of non-vegetarians, and concluded with a message about living together in harmony. He captioned the post, “Why Complicate when it is so Simple.” Though he did not mention the film or its director, the timing was widely seen as a response to the ongoing criticism.
Earlier, he had shared another post referencing the 2023 film The Kerala Story, contrasting it with images of pork curry, beef fry, fish curry, and a vegetarian Onam sadya. Emphasising culinary coexistence, he wrote that the real Kerala story is how pork, beef, and fish coexist with vegetarian sadya and live in harmony.
Reacting to the actor’s comments in a conversation with ANI, Kamakhya Narayan Singh said he once considered Prakash Raj a high-calibre actor but now viewed him as equally low as a human being. He questioned whether daughters were being forcefully fed beef and converted, and said such actions would never be acceptable in a civilised society in India. He added that Prakash Raj had become intellectually bankrupt.
The exchange has added to the debate around the film, which has drawn criticism over its themes.
The Kerala Story 2 is scheduled to release in cinemas on February 27.
