New Delhi: BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has stirred up a controversy after giving direction to people of her winning Lok Sabha constituency, Himachal Pradesh's Mandi, to produce their Aadhaar cards when they come to meet her.
Ranaut also wanted people to have the purpose of their visit written down on a paper to avoid inconvenience.
"Himachal Pradesh attracts a lot of tourists, so it is necessary to have an Aadhaar card from the Mandi area. Your work related to the constituency should also be written in the letter so that you don't have to face inconvenience," she was quoted as saying.
Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh, who lost to Kangana Ranaut in the Mandi Lok Sabha seat, said people "don't need to bring the Aadhaar card" in order for them to meet him, adding that ‘Asking people to bring their papers for a meeting is not right.’
But Ranaut justified her direction saying that ‘Tourists come so much that common people face a lot of inconveniences.’
She directed people of Himachal’s northern region to meet her at her home in Manali, while those in Mandi can come to her office in the city.
However Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh took on Ranaut reminding her that "We are people's representatives. So, it is our responsibility to meet people from every section of the state. Whether it is a small task, a big task, a policy matter, or a personal work, it does not require any identity.’
Singh, who is also the sitting state Public Works Minister, further told reporters that ‘If a person is coming to a public representative, they are coming for some work.’
