Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey resigns, likely to contest elections

Patna: Bihar Director General of Police (DGP, Gupteshwar Pandey has resigned from service. The Bihar government has accepted his resignation. The government has also issued an order passing his duties to SK Singhal, as additional charge over his responsibility of law and order.

Gupeshwar Pandey, according to national media reports, quit service to pave the way to contesting Bihar assembly election on BJP ticket. Indications are that he will contest from Buxar constituency.

Pandey's political leanings had surfaced in the media during the case of the suicide of Sushant Singh Rajput. He had commented that the Mumbai police had acted illegally in the actor's case. That comment was alleged to have been made to defame the Maharashtra alliance government at the behest of BJP.

Although Pandey had prepared to resign even before the 2014 Lok Sabha election, he withdrew his resignation when it was realised that he would not be given a ticket.
