Sikkim: An army truck fell into a gorge here, killing sixteen soldiers, including three officers, on Friday.
Indian Army released a statement on the incident, informing that the truck was part of a three-vehicle envoy travelling from Chatten towards Thangu, NDTV reported.
Army said that en route at Zema, the vehicle skidded, falling into the gorge after negotiating a sharp turn. A rescue mission launched evacuated four injured soldiers.
The Army extended its moral support to the bereaved families in their hour of loss.
Defence Minister Rajnath expressed his grief and extended condolences on Twitter.
"Deeply pained by the loss of lives of the Indian Army personnel due to a road accident in North Sikkim. The nation is deeply grateful for their service and commitment. My condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the speedy recovery of those who are injured," Singh tweeted.
