New Delhi: The Election Commission said today that the vote counting for the Assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim has been rescheduled to June 2. Earlier, vote counting in these two states was to be held on June 4, when votes cast for the general election and for state polls in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh will be counted.
Since the terms of these two states' legislative assemblies expire on June 2, the counting date was changed. This means that Arunachal and Sikkim won't have an elected Assembly for a few days following the vote-counting on June 4. In order to prevent this, the poll commission has announced that the vote counting will take place on June 2nd, ensuring that the election results will be known by the time the present Assembly finishes its term, NDTV reported.
However, the Election Commission has stated that the dates for the parliamentary elections in these two states would not be altered. Elections for the nation's 543 Lok Sabha seats will begin on April 19. There will be seven voting phases. First phase of voting for the two Lok Sabha seats in Arunachal and one in Sikkim is scheduled for April 19. They will cast ballots to choose their state governments at the same time.
