Sarah Snook, known for her role in the hit TV series Succession, is set to captivate audiences in London next year with a one-woman show. She will be portraying 26 different characters in a new adaptation of Oscar Wilde's iconic novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray.
The 35-year-old is excited and said, "Bringing a show to an international audience, to a theatre Oscar Wilde would no doubt have frequented, is thrilling, and demands a high calibre of theatrical experience to be worthy of the venture. The Picture of Dorian Gray is just that, and I'm honoured to be joining the team that created it. To be asked to play these multiple roles is an exhilarating challenge I can't wait to get into."
It will be directed by Kip Williams, artistic director of the Sydney Theatre Company.
The stage adaptation of the 1890 novel will open on January 23, 2024, at the prestigious Theatre Royal Haymarket, running for a duration of nearly 12 weeks. Snook's home country Australia has already witnessed the success of this production with a different actress. The Guardian called it "ambitious, exuberant, and whip-smart" and gave it five stars.
The actress gained widespread acclaim for her role as Shiv Roy in the critically acclaimed TV series Succession, which concluded its fourth and final season earlier this year.
Snook was last seen on the London stage in 2016 alongside Ralph Fiennes in The Master Builder. She is excited and told BBC, "This story of morality, innocence, narcissism, and consequence is going to be thrilling to recreate for a new audience."
