Kochi: The trailer of the much-anticipated Malayalam film Patriot has been released, generating significant buzz for bringing together industry stalwarts Mammootty and Mohanlal on screen after a gap of more than 13 years. Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, the film is slated for a theatrical release on May 1, 2026, after being postponed from its earlier April 23 date.
The trailer presents a high-stakes espionage action drama centred on cybercrime and a covert surveillance conspiracy. Mammootty plays Dr Daniel James, a retired officer who is falsely accused of treason and drawn back into a dangerous mission. His character turns to a trusted ally, portrayed by Mohanlal, as both navigate a tense operation linked to national security. The visuals suggest a narrative driven by deception, surveillance and intense conflict.
The film also features a prominent ensemble cast including Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara, Darshana Rajendran, Kunchacko Boban and Revathy.
Produced by Anto Joseph and KG Anil Kumar, with co-production by CR Saleem and Subhash George Manuel, the film’s music is composed by Sushin Shyam. Shot across multiple international locations including the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates, the film reflects a global-scale narrative.
The director has indicated that the story required the presence of both lead actors, underlining the scale and ambition of the project.
