Released on August 15, Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor's Stree 2 has emerged as the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024, setting a new record at the box office.
In just five days, the film has garnered an impressive Rs 228 crore, surpassing the lifetime earnings of Hrithik Roshan's Fighter and the Hindi version of Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan's Kalki 2898 AD.
Additionally, Stree 2 claimed the title of the biggest opening weekend of the year, thanks to its extended weekend release.
According to Sacnilk, Stree 2 collected Rs 37 crore on Monday alone, bringing its total box office collection to Rs 228.45 crore.
By comparison, Fighter earned Rs 115.30 crore during its opening weekend and concluded its theatrical run with a lifetime collection of Rs 199.45 crore, as reported by Bollywood Hungama. Meanwhile, the Hindi version of Kalki 2898 AD accumulated Rs 112.15 crore in its opening weekend and finished with a lifetime collection of Rs 294.25 crore.
Stree 2's success was bolstered by two major holidays — Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan. The film earned Rs 76.5 crore on Independence Day and Rs 37 crore on Raksha Bandhan, with the highest occupancies reported in cities such as Delhi-NCR, Lucknow, Bhopal, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur.
As a sequel to the 2018 hit Stree, the latest installment reunites the original cast, including Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana. The first film had a lifetime box office collection of Rs 129.90 crore, making Stree 2 a resounding success by comparison.
