South Indian film industry is more disciplined, says Raveena Tandon

Mumbai: Raveena Tandon, a highly regarded Bollywood actress known for her roles in iconic films like "Mohra," "Dilwale," and "Dulhe Raja," recently shared her insights about the disparities between the Hindi and South Indian film industries.

Raveena, who has also made appearances in South Indian cinema alongside stars such as Kamal Haasan, Chiranjeevi, and Nagarjuna, offered her perspective on the reasons behind the success of the South Indian film industry.

In a conversation with Rajshri Unplugged, Raveena acknowledged the widespread belief that the South Indian film industry is renowned for its discipline, while the Hindi film industry tends to struggle in this regard. Drawing a comparison between the two, she highlighted that the Hindi film industry's performance has been impacted by its disconnect from cultural roots.

Raveena expressed, "They don't make much of elitist movies. I think that's what works. Whereas in Mumbai, they followed the Westernized culture. They started making DVD copies of movies in Mumbai, which were not doing good business. So, it was very necessary that we stay connected with what our masses wanted. This I've learned from the South Industry."

Furthermore, Raveena fondly recalled her experiences working in the South Indian film industry. She mentioned how the filmmakers in the South allowed her to embrace her natural self, including putting on some extra weight. However, upon returning to Mumbai, she had to shed those additional pounds.

Raveena shared her amusing experience, saying, "When I used to come to Bombay (Mumbai), everyone used to say that I've put on weight. When I used to go to the South, they used to be like, why have you lost weight? Eat a lot. So I used to enjoy it a lot. I used to leave dieting and eat idli, dosa, and coconut chutney in abundance."

Raveena Tandon made her foray into the Telugu film industry in 1993 with "Bangaru Bullodu" and ventured into the Tamil film industry with "Sadhu" in 1994. Her most recent appearance was in the highly anticipated film "K.G.F: Chapter 2."
