Assamese musician Zubeen Garg suffered a fall in the hotel washroom and was hospitalised in Guwahati. He was airlifted from Dibrugarh district to Guwahati this evening.
Sources told NDTV that Garg is stable. Doctors performed a CT scan and his vital parameters are normal. The singer has received stitches.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa said if needed, the artist will be flown to a better hospital out of the state for further treatment. The Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner and health minister Keshab Mahanta are charged with monitoring the situation. The CM directed that the singer should receive all quality medical services.
Garg is known for songs like 'Ya Ali' from the 2006 Bollywood film Gangster and 'Dil Tu hi Bataa' from Krrish 3. He has composed music for Assamese, Bengali, and Hindi films. He also worked occasionally in other languages and dialects including Bishnupriya Manipuri, Boro, Kannada, Khasi, Malayalam, Marathi, Mising, Nepali, Odia, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Tiwa, and Karbi.
His younger sister Jonkey Borthakur was an actress and singer. She died in a car accident in 2002 when she was going to perform in a programme. Garg released two albums Akou Hiyamon and Xixhu in her memory.
The 49-year-old is Assam's highest-paid singer. In May 2022, he announced that he has recorded 32,000 songs and will approach Guinness World Records.
