Samanta, Vijay Devarakonda, Saina Nehwal & more receive SIR notices
Hyderabad: Several prominent personalities, including actors Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Vijay Deverakonda and former India cricketer V.V.S. Laxman, have received notices as part of the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana.
The notices have also reportedly been issued to filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli, actor Mahesh Babu and his wife Namrata Shirodkar, actor Venkatesh Daggubati and his children, and Vijay Deverakonda’s brother Anand Deverakonda. Sports personalities Saina Nehwal, Mithali Raj and Pullela Gopichand are also among those who have received notices.
The notices are part of the electoral roll verification process, under which officials are checking voter details and allowing corrections where necessary. In some cases, discrepancies involving voters' or their parents' names, or difficulties linking their records to previous SIR documents, have reportedly triggered the notices. Some notices, however, do not specify a particular reason.
Those served notices will be given an opportunity to appear for verification, submit supporting documents and rectify errors in their electoral details. Officials have also said that representatives may appear on behalf of individuals who are unable to attend personally.
The Election Commission has clarified that receiving an SIR notice does not by itself mean that a person’s voting rights have been cancelled or their name removed from the electoral roll. The notices are part of the verification exercise.
Similar notices were issued to prominent individuals during the SIR exercise in Karnataka, including Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani and his family, as well as Zerodha founders Nithin Kamath and Nikhil Kamath.
