Los Angeles: American singer Selena Gomez recently became the most followed woman on Instagram. But soon, she announced that she is going to take a break from Instagram and TikTok.
This is not the first time Selena has become the most-followed. She was on a break from social media and came back recently. After beating beauty mogul Kylie Jenner, Selena once again claimed the revered title. She was the most-followed a few years ago too. However, the singer-actress decided to take another break.
"I'm very happy. I'm so blessed. I have the best friends, the best fans in the whole world and I just couldn't be happier. I'm good. I love who I am. I don't care. I'm big. I'm not. I don't care. I love who I am. And yeah, I'm gonna be taking a second from social media, 'cause this is a little silly. And I'm 30, I'm too old for this. But I love you guys so much. And I will see you guys sooner than later. I'm gonna just take a break from everything," she said in a TikTok video.
Fans suspect that the decision may have been influenced by Hailey Bieber and Kendal Jenner throwing shade at Selena over a beauty blunder.
Selena, who is also the founder of the beauty brand Rare, in a TikTok video, told her fans that she accidentally over-laminated her eyebrows. She was having a candid moment with her fans. Around the same time, Kylie Jenner posted a picture of herself and wrote "this was an accident????" over her eyebrows. She also posted a picture of Hailey.
When this was speculated to be throwing shade at Selena, Kylie said: "This is reaching. no shade towards Selena ever and i didn’t see her eyebrow posts! u guys are making something out of nothing. this is silly." Selena also put an end to it by saying: "Agreed @kyliejenner "It's all unnecessary. I’m a fan of Kylie!"
However, fans criticised Hailey and Kylie for acting like mean girls.
Earlier this month, Hailey was accused of fat-shaming Selena. At the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, Selena was body shamed by many for gaining weight. Soon after this, Hailey was seen lip-syncing to an audio that said: "I am not saying she deserved it, but God’s timing is always right." When fans called it out, she deleted the video. She also claimed that the video was just fun and not a reference to Selena.
Selena commented on the situation and said: "It’s ok! I don’t let these things get me down! Be nice to everyone! X."
Hailey was also seen gagging at the mention of Taylor Swift at a concert. Selena came out to support Swift and wrote: "So sorry, my best friend is and continues to be one of the best in the game."
Selena's on-and-off relationship with Justin Bieber has been a sore point in her presence on social media. Now, after a few incidents, fans think Selena is taking a break to preserve her mental health.
