Mumbai: Reliance Jio has launched two prepaid mobile plans that come with a complementary Netflix subscription. This offer marks a global first, showcasing the telecom giant's commitment to providing enhanced services to its user base.
Netflix subscriptions were already available to select Jio Postpaid and Jio Fiber plan subscribers. However, this marks the first instance of a Netflix subscription being integrated into a prepaid plan.
The newly introduced plans are priced at Rs. 1,099 and Rs. 1,499, both with an 84-day validity period that includes a Netflix subscription.
The Rs. 1,099 plan offers a Netflix mobile subscription, along with unlimited 5G data or 2 GB of 4G data daily, and unlimited voice calls.
Notably, the Netflix mobile subscription is available separately for Rs. 149 per month, permitting content viewing exclusively on mobile devices.
For the higher-tier plan at Rs. 1,499, users can enjoy Netflix's basic feature, allowing content streaming on either mobile or television for one device at a time. This plan mirrors the benefits of the lower-tier version while offering 3GB of 4G data daily.
Standalone, the Netflix basic plan in India costs Rs. 199 per month.
Reliance Jio also offers a 2GB data plan with unlimited voice calls and an 84-day validity at Rs. 719. Similarly, the same plan with 3GB data is available starting at Rs. 999. This variety of plans aims to cater to different user preferences and data requirements.
Kiran Thomas, CEO of Jio Platforms, expressed the significance of this partnership and said: "We are committed to bringing world-class services to our users. The launch of Netflix bundles with our prepaid plan is yet another step to demonstrate our resolve. Our partnership with global partners like Netflix has grown in strength, and together we are creating use cases for the rest of the world to follow."
Currently, more than 400 million Jio prepaid customers stand to benefit from this collaboration, gaining the option to access a Netflix subscription via a Jio Prepaid bundled plan.
Tony Zameczkowski, Netflix Vice President of APAC Partnerships, highlighted the appeal of this collaboration and said: "Over the years, we have launched a variety of successful local shows, documentaries, and films, which have been loved by audiences across India. Our collection of must-watch stories is growing and our new prepaid bundle partnership with Jio will give more customers access to this exciting line-up of Indian content as well as some incredible stories from around the world."
