Mumbai: Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan expressed her pleasure on social media on Sunday following the world premiere of her thriller film "The Buckingham Murders" at the esteemed BFI London Film Festival 2023.
Kareena took to Instagram Stories to post a new still from the movie. She captioned, "Excited," and a sticker to accompany the photo and wrote, "The Buckingham Murders premiers today at the BFI London film festival."
Kareena makes her producing debut in the movie. Ekta Kapoor co-produces the film, which is directed by Hansal Mehta.
The movie centres on Jasmeet Bhamra (Kareena Kapoor Khan), a mother and detective in Buckinghamshire who, after losing her own child, is forced to look into the murder of a 10-year-old. She goes down a secretive rabbit hole where nearly everyone in the small town is made a suspect, ANI reported.
Kareena disclosed in an interview with Variety that Kate Winslet's performance in "Mare of Easttown" served as an inspiration for her role in the movie.
She said, "I love 'Mare of Easttown' and when Hansal came to me, I said this is something that I've really been dying to do. So we've molded a little bit on those lines, she plays a detective cop in that."
Talking about the film, Hansal Mehta told Variety, "It was a refreshing change to make a film set in the U.K., to have Kareena as this detective, to make an authentic procedural, but not to make it about the procedure and make it about grief or trauma and about closure. Kareena's face - there are a million stories on that face. It's amazing - when you put the camera on her and without saying anything it tells you so many stories, in my film she's stunning."
Mehta also disclosed that, depending on the movie's reception, he intends to turn the film into a franchise.
"I have stories taking Jaspreet Bhamra forward," Mehta told Variety.
Kareena will next be seen in "The Crew," which also features Dilji Dosanjh, Tabu, and Kriti Sanon in key roles.
The movie is scheduled to release in theatres on March 22, 2024.
