Indian 2 makers eye May 2024 release despite elections

Chennai: Recent speculations suggest that the makers of the upcoming Kamal Haasan starrer, Indian 2, are considering a release date in May 2024, despite the approaching elections.

The highly anticipated film, directed by S Shankar, is the official sequel to the duo's 1996 hit, Indian.

With production underway for some time, it appears that the team is gearing up for its release.

While an official confirmation is pending, rumors indicate that Indian 2 may hit theaters in May. Despite other films opting to delay releases due to the upcoming elections, the makers of this Kamal Haasan starrer seem to be taking a different approach.

Details about the film's release remain speculative, with no concrete confirmation from the production team yet. However, an official glimpse of the movie was released in November 2023, showcasing Kamal Haasan's return in the iconic role without specifying a release date.

Indian 2 is expected to continue the storyline from the first film, following the journey of the vigilante hero, Veerasekaran Senapathy, also known as Indian. The sequel is anticipated to bring the character back to India, amidst rising corruption and injustice in society.

Featuring an ensemble cast including SJ Suryah, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, Kalidas Jayaram, Gulshan Grover, Samuthirakani, Bobby Simha, and Brahmanandam. The film will also serve as a tribute to late actors Nedumudi Venu, Vivek, and Manobala.

In addition to Indian 2, Kamal Haasan has a busy lineup ahead. He is set to play a pivotal role in the Prabhas starrer dystopian sci-fi film, Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Aswin. Furthermore, he will lead in Mani Ratnam's Thug Life and Anbarivu Masters' directorial debut, tentatively titled KH237.
