Diljit Dosanjh faces criticism over trans slur lyrics in 'Aroma'

Singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has come under criticism over a lyric in his 2026 song Aroma, with some social media users alleging that it contains language viewed as derogatory toward transgender and queer communities.

The controversy gained attention on June 1, the start of Pride Month, although the song was released on April 23. The debate emerged weeks later after listeners and content creators began discussing the meaning of a particular verse online.

Content creator Faith Michael criticised the lyric in an Instagram reel, saying the queer community did not expect such language from the artist. Faith said the song had been part of their playlist and that they only became aware of the lyric's meaning after seeing discussions online.

According to Faith, the song appeared to celebrate traditional masculinity while using language that some interpreted as disparaging toward queer and transgender people.

Other content creators also voiced concerns, with some questioning why the issue had not received wider attention. Several said they were disappointed because Dosanjh has a large and diverse fan base that includes LGBTQ+ listeners.

The discussion later spread to social media platform X, where users criticised the lyric and debated its meaning and implications.

As of now, Dosanjh has not publicly responded to the criticism or addressed the concerns raised about the song's lyrics.
