Anushka Sharma's audition tape for 3 Idiots left Aamir Khan, Rajkumar Hirani surprised, video viral

Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma turns 35 today. She worked as a model prior to entering the film industry, making a spectacular debut with Aditya Chopra’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi opposite Shah Rukh Khan.

An old video of Anushka from the sets of RajKumar Hirani’s PK is going viral today. In the video which opens with Anushka talking to the camera, she says that she’s set to tell the audience a big secret. She then shared that in 2007, she had auditioned for the lead role in 3 Idiots.

3 Idiots also starred R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi, and featured Kareena Kapoor as the leading lady. During the shoot of PK, Anushka showed her audition tape to director Hirani and Aamir Khan.

“Anushka auditioned for 3 Idiots? No, she didn’t,” Hirani can be heard saying in the clip.

The actress then showed the audition video to them on the set leaving both surprised.

Anushka, for her audition, mouthed Gracy Singh’s dialogue from Munna Bhai MBBS’s climax where she addressed Boman Irani’s character when he rusticates Sanjay Dutt from the medical college.

While she hid her face in embarrassment, Aamir complimented her for tearing up in the scene without glycerin. He also ridiculed the director for rejecting her even after she gave such a great test. The trio then laugh at the coincidence as they ask the team to shoot their reactions.

Anushka Sharma then went on to establish herself as a brilliant actress in films like Band Baaja Baaraat, Sultan, Dil Dhadakne Do and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Sui Dhaga, and more. She also launched her production company Clean Slate Films in 2013 with brother Karnesh Sharma and helmed films like NH10, Pari and Phillauri, and OTT content like Paatal Lok, Bulbbul and Qala.

Last year, she announced backing out of the company in order to focus on her acting career and responsibilities as a mother. She is married to cricketer Virat Kohli and they welcomed their daughter Vamika in January 2021.

Sharma is all set to return on screens with Netflix’s biopic Chakda Xpress, where she plays Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami.
