Cape Town: Indian cricketer Virat Kohli and actor Anushka requested the media refrain from publishing photos of his daughter Vamika, PTI reported. On Monday, he said that his baby's images aired by the broadcasters were clicked off guard.
Kohli and Anushka wrote on an Instagram story that they realized their daughter's pictures were captured at the stadium during Sunday's ODI cricket match and has been shared widely. They would appreciate it if Vamika's images were not clicked or published for reasons they have explained earlier, the story said.
Both Kohli and Anushka Sharma, his wife, had requested media multiple times not to publish their recently one-year-old child's picture. But during the third ODI match on Sunday, broadcasters shot Anushka with the child in her hand, celebrating when Kohli scored 50. It only took minutes for #Vamika to trend on Twitter, and screenshots of the footage went viral on various social media platforms.
Last month, while leaving for India's South African tour, Kohli had requested paparazzi to avoid snapping his daughter's pictures. Before that, in an "Ask me anything" session of an Instagram story, someone had asked why the couple does not post photos of Vamika. Kohli had then replied that they decided not to expose their child before social media until she had an understanding of what social media is, and thus she could make her own choice.
In the last ODI match, Kohli had performed well with his half-century. It was his second half-century in the series, but India lost the game as well as the series for (0-3) against South Africa.
