New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed that one out of every seven iPhones is made in India since Apple increased its phone production in the country, NDTV reported.
Talking with NDTV, he claimed that India is currently the second-largest mobile manufacturer in the world.
Modi said that, at first, India was an importer of mobile phones. But now, the country has become the second largest manufacturer of mobile phones and is exporting iPhones nowadays.
Modi continued that India is also exporting a record number of Apple products, which is a stellar example of the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme’s success.
According to him, around 25 per cent of all iPhones are to be made in India by 2028. India had a record first-quarter shipment in India, growing by 19% year-on-year.
According to NDTV, Apple is reducing its dependence on China by deepening its ecosystem by building a network of local vendors.
In the January-March quarter, Apple recorded a double-digit growth in India. India is expected to become iPhone’s third-largest market in the next 2-3 years. Apple shipped 10 million iPhones to India last year, accounting for 7 per cent of its market share, NDTV reported.
