BJP leadership backs Yogi Adityanath amid tension in party's UP unit

New Delhi: The BJP central leadership has thrown its weight behind Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath in the midst of reports that differences in the state leadership are looming large over the party after the Lok Sabha polls.

Despite tension between the state government and the party, the leadership hinted at having no changes to the government, firmly supporting Yogi Adityanath, according to The Free Press Journal.

It seems the leadership is worried more about the upcoming by-elections in the state which the party wants to win in order to strengthen its ranks.

Given this, the BJP has urged all senior leaders to work together for its victory.

The Free Press Journal quoted a source in the party as saying: "There might be some changes in the organization, but these will be effected after the bypolls."

Bypolls to ten seats in the state is yet to be announced and winning all seats is so important for the BJP that it will help the party recover from the setback in the Lok Sabha polls.

The conflict between Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya is central to the crisis in the state.

Mauraya met the party National President JP Nadda on Tuesday night and there was another meeting between state BJP President Bhupendra Chaudhry and Nadda; later Maurya reportedly met PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday night.

The national leadership told Maurya and Chaudhary that ensuring victory is the party's priority, and there would not be any change to the state government.

The setback in Lok Sabha polls in the state has placed Yogi Adityanath in a difficult situation with party leaders linking seat loss to corrupt bureaucracy.

A footage showed the former minister Moti Singh in a speech in Patti, Pratapgarh, claiming that he had never seen the level of corruption now happening in tehsils and thanas in his 42 years of political career.

The reassurance from Modi and Shah has bolstered Yogi's leadership alongside the meeting on Sunday attended by JP Nadda praised the Yogi administration’s efforts.

In the meeting attended by Nadda, Yogi told the party leaders to be confident and promote the government’s work on social media and urged them to address public issues directly.

However, at the working committee meeting, Maurya said the organization was bigger than the government, triggering dispute.

Meanwhile, the Congress leader Pramod Tiwari compared the situation of the state BJP to tenure of Kalyan Singh as the Chief Minister, suggesting more troubles.
