X Update: Blocked users can now see your public posts!
cancel

New Delhi: The social media platform X, run by Elon Musk, has started rolling out an update that allows users you’ve blocked to still see your public posts and follower lists.

According to the company, if your posts are set to public, those you have blocked will be able to view them. X Engineering announced the change in a post, explaining that while blocked users can see your posts, they cannot interact with them by liking, replying, or reposting.

The block feature is intended to help users manage their interactions on X, allowing them to stop specific accounts from following them, sending direct messages, or engaging with their content. Musk had previously stated that preventing people from viewing public posts “makes no sense.”

With this update, blocked accounts will not be able to follow you, and if you block someone you were following, you will automatically unfollow them. If you choose to unblock that account later, you will need to follow them again.

Despite these changes, blocked users still cannot follow you, interact with your posts, or send you direct messages.

In response to these updates, software engineer Tracy Chou has created an app to help users automate blocking. She expressed concerns about the update, stating, “Making it easy for the creeper to creep is not a good thing.”

While X argues that the block feature can help manage harmful or private information, many users have expressed their opposition to this change.
