Why Michelle Obama cried 'for 30 minutes' after Donald Trump's inauguration
text_fieldsNew York: Former First Lady Michelle Obama revealed she couldn’t fight back tears as she had left the White House for the last time in 2017.
Michelle Obama was reflecting on her and her husband in 'Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast', when she said she sobbed while leaving her family’s home of eight years.
Plus she had resentment at seeing Donald Trump taking office in the inauguration ceremony which she was attending.
‘After the inauguration - and we know whose inauguration we were at - that day was so emotional for so many different reasons. We were leaving the home we had been in for eight years, the only home our kids really knew,’ she was quoted as saying in the podcast.
Mrs Obama recalled how her children were saying goodbye to staff at White House who helped to raise them over the eight years they spent there.
In the podcast she talked about the lack of diversity she had seen in attendance at Trump's inauguration, which had no ‘broader sense of America’.
There were tears in her eyes from sitting on the stage watching the opposite of what ‘we represented on display’.
The most emotional moment of the day came when she boarded the Air Force One flight.
When the doors shut she cried for 30 minutes straight uncontrollably, the former US First Lady reminisced years later.
