US strikes Iran military sites near Chabahar Free Trade Zone: Report

Washington: US fighter jets targeted Iranian military positions near the Chabahar Free Trade Zone on Monday, with explosions reported behind the zone in Sistan and Baluchestan province near Pakistan, per Al Jazeera citing Voice of America’s Persian service.

The strikes occur amid West Asia war triggered by US-Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28, killing Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and top commanders. Iran retaliated against US assets and Gulf civilian sites like airports, ports, and oil facilities, halting Strait of Hormuz shipping and pressuring energy markets.

As the conflict hits its third week, Trump administration officials predict a quick resolution. Energy Secretary Chris Wright told ABC’s This Week: “I think that this conflict will certainly come to an end in the next few weeks, could — could be sooner than that,” acknowledging war’s uncertainties.

Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi dismissed ceasefire or negotiation rumours on CBS’s Face the Nation. “No, we never asked for a cease-fire, and we have never asked even for negotiation,” he said, framing it as Trump’s “war of choice” and insisting Iran remains “stable and strong enough.”
