Kahramanmaras: The count of children found alive in the rubble after the Turkey-Syria earthquake has surpassed 22,000. They were found long after the 72-hour window during which survivors are considered most likely to be found.

The rescue crew on the fifth day of searching through the flattened buildings.

According to Turkish media reports, 18-month-old Yusuf Huseyin was pulled from the debris in the southeastern city of Antakya. In the next 20 minutes, a seven-year-old boy Muhammed Huseyin was found. Three-year-old Zeynep Ela Parlak was also found in the same city on Friday.

On Thursday, a woman and her 10-day-old baby were rescued after spending 90 hours trapped in Hatay province. However, thousands of people are still under the rubble. Kahramanmaras, one of those hit hardest, is reported to reek of dead bodies.

Miners, the UN, Red Cross, and US Agency for International Development are working on the rescue efforts.

Turkish leader Cemil Bayik told news agency ANF that everyone must mobilise using all their means. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged the Security Council to authorise the opening of new cross-border humanitarian aid points between Turkey and Syria, reported AFP.
