Terrorism case: Pak court extends Imran Khans pre-arrest bail
cancel

Islamabad: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan got an extension on his pre-arrest bail on a case of terrorism, charged after a speech he delivered. A court here ordered the same on Thursday, granting him two weeks extension, Reuters reported citing his lawyer.

When the pre-arrest bail expired on August 31, the new extension gave him relief till September 12.

Imran's lawyer Faisal Chaudhry told the news agency that the case was not terrorism at all but politically motivated.

Police said that the charge on Imran Khan was after threatening the Islamabad police chief and a female judge after he spoke about police torture on one of his aid, who is facing sedition charges for inciting mutiny inside the military.

But Imran Khan had denied threatening officials, stating that his words were taken out of context. The former premier had said in a speech that he "would not spare" the Islamabad police chief and a female judge who remanded his aide to custody. He had also said that he would take legal action against them.

Meanwhile, political tensions are at a peak as Khan conducts rallies to gather support for elections, though the same is due only in October next year.
