Saudi Arabia, Iran commit to implementing Beijing Agreement
text_fieldsJeddah: The inaugural meeting of the Tripartite Joint Committee involving Saudi Arabia, China, and Iran concluded in Beijing on Friday with the Saudi and Iranian delegations pledging their commitment to implementing the Beijing Agreement.
Wang Yi, a key member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, director of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee Foreign Affairs Commission Office, and minister of foreign affairs, presided over a group meeting attended by the heads of the Saudi and Iranian delegations, Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khuraiji and Ali Bagheri Kani, respectively.
The talks centred on the improved relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran following the Beijing agreement brokered by China in March.
Topics included the reopening of the embassies of both countries in Riyadh and Tehran, and the meetings and mutual visits of both nations’ foreign ministers.
Both the Saudi and Iranian delegations commended China for hosting the meeting and vowed to uphold the terms of the Beijing Agreement.
The tripartite talks addressed collaborative efforts across diverse fields while raising concerns over the escalating situation in Gaza. Deeming it a threat to regional and global peace and security, the parties called for an immediate halt to military operations in the Strip.
They also expressed the need for a sustainable system of civilian aid and slammed the forced displacement of Palestinians.
Any decision regarding Palestine’s future should align with the wishes of the Palestinian people, the trio added, ensuring their right to form their own state and shape their destiny.
It was also agreed that the next meeting of the tripartite would take place in Saudi Arabia in June.
