PM Modi gifts sitar to French President Macron, silk to his wife
text_fieldsParis: Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave special works of Indian craftsmanship to French President Emmanuel Macron, his wife Brigitte, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, President of the French National Assembly Yael Braun-Pivet, and President of the French Senate Gerard Larcher as part of his diplomatic visit to France. The presents showcased the intricate craftsmanship, fine art, and rich textile history of India.
PM Modi gave a beautiful sitar replica, made completely of sandalwood, to President Macron. The sandalwood carving, a centuries-old art form used in Southern India, featured pictures of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Saraswati holding Sitars, along with peacock illustrations—India's national bird. The artwork incorporates a variety of Indian cultural aspects, NDTV reported.
'Marble Inlay Work' was used for decorating a table that was given to Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne. Marble inlay work, renowned for its exquisite workmanship, combines premium marble from Makrana, Rajasthan, and semi-precious stones collected from various locations in India. The marble is expertly carved, etched, and set with stones to produce a stunning, vibrant work of art.
The President of the French National Assembly, Yael Braun-Pivet, was presented with a hand-knit silk carpet from Kashmir, which is known across the world for its softness and beautiful design. These intricately patterned rugs have the unique property of changing colour depending on the angle from which they are seen, adding to their artistic appeal.
Finally, a hand-carved elephant statue made of sandalwood was gifted to Gerard Larcher, President of the French Senate. The elephant is a wonderful representation of the balance of nature, culture, and art. In Indian tradition, the elephant represents knowledge, strength, and good fortune.
According to official sources, each of these gifts represents a unique aspect of India's rich cultural past and symbolises the many cultural ties that unite the two countries. Two weeks after widespread rioting, PM Modi was honoured during France's Bastille Day celebrations on Friday, which were held in heightened security. On Thursday, PM Modi started a two-day trip to Paris.
