France: A leading Iranian actor and critic of the country's ruling elite was arrested on Sunday after she publicly removed her hijab protesting against the country's harsh Islamic laws.

Hengameh Ghaziani posted a video of herself, filmed in a shopping street, showing bareheaded before binding her hair into a ponytail, according to AFP.

The 52-year-old film star was joining thousands of other women who continue to protest against the death in custody of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini after arrested by Iran's morality police.

Despite the government's severe crackdown and deaths of several hundred protesters, women in Iran are shaking the foundations of the country ruled by an oligarchy of elites.

Desperate authorities in the face of chaos call the protest as "riots', while accusing Western countries of "fomenting" the situation.

The actor had already said she had been summoned by the judiciary but went on publishing the defiant video on Intagram.

On Saturday Ghaziani had written that it would be her last post and told the fans whatever was to befall her she would be with the Iranian people until her last breath.

Earlier last week she called Iranian government " child-killer", accusing it of " murdering' more than 50 children, according to AFP.

Meanwhile, judiciary's website Mizan Online included Ghaziani among eight people who were summoned for ' provocative' videos posted on social media; others in the list are actors including Mitra Hajjar and Baran Kosari.

Yahya Golmohammadi , who is the coach of Iran's football team Persepolis FC, is also in the list after he criticized players for not "bringing the voice of oppressed" to the authorities when they met met President Ebrahim Raisi earlier.
