Israel should be allowed to nuke Gaza: US Senator asserts

Washington: A Republican Senator criticised US President Joe Biden for delaying the delivery of 3000 heavy bombs that Israel ‘need’ to end its war with Hamas, news agency ANI reported.

Lindsey Graham, who is a staunch supporter of Israel, compared the Israel-Hamas war with World War II, claiming that the use of nuclear bombs on Japan to the war was a ‘right decision’.

Graham told NBC News in an interview on Sunday that "When we were faced with destruction as a nation after Pearl Harbor, fighting the Germans and the Japanese, we decided to end the war by the bombing [of] Hiroshima [and] Nagasaki with nuclear weapons...That was the right decision."

Making a case for why Israel should use heavy bombs, he urged the US authorities to: "Give Israel the bombs they need to end the war. They can't afford to lose."

The Senator said that Israel should do ‘ whatever’ it takes for it to survive as a ‘ Jewish state’, referring to the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki that left more than 2, 00,000 people killed and injured many more.

"Why is it OK for America to drop two nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end their existential threat war? Why was it OK for us to do that? I thought it was OK," Graham was quoted as saying.

Blaming Hamas for the civilian casualties in the conflict, Graham accused the outfit of using civilians in the strip as 'human shields'.

"I think it's impossible to mitigate civilian deaths in Gaza as long as Hamas uses their own population as human shields. I've never seen in the history of warfare such blatant efforts by an enemy -- Hamas -- to put civilians at risk," Graham reportedly said, adding that "The last thing you want to do is reward this behaviour."

Recently, President Joe Biden held up the delivery of 3000 heavy bombs to Israel and vowed to do so on more weapons if Israel carry out operations in Rafah.
