Imran lied to IMF on petrol, diesel prices: Pakistan Finance Minister
text_fieldsIslamabad: Even after his ouster from power, former Prime Minister Imran Khan continues to be at the centre of Pakistan's politics—for better or worse.
Only the other day he blamed the US administration for his ouster and called the incumbent government a 'puppet'.
Hours after his statement, Pakistan's Finance Minister Miftah Ismail accused Imran Khan of lying to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on the prices of petrol and diesel.
The Khan government promised the IMF it would impose 17 per cent of general sales tax (GST) alongside 30 PKR levy on petrol and diesel prices, according to IANS.
Finance Minister Miftah Ismail said that Khan Administration told IMF it wouldn't bear the loss on petrol and diesel prices.
Miftah Ismail blamed the former PM for what he said 70 PKR the nation was losing on diesel today.
The price of petrol as per the promise made by the Khan government to IMF should have been 295 PKR not 150PKR, he said.
"They used to promise something to the IMF and then say something completely different in Pakistan," he was quoted as saying.
He called the Khan Administration's commitment to IMF "landmines" left behind.
The Minister blamed the load shedding in the nation on the 'incompetence' of the previous government.
Powerhouses with 7500 MW capacity had been shut down during the previous regime, according to him.
The Finance Minister accused Khan Government of excessive borrowing, making a record of fastest spiking inflation and leaving record trade deficits.
