Greenwood, Indiana: A man opened fire Sunday evening at a mall in Indiana killing three before being shot dead by a civilian, reports Associated Press.

The man armed with rifle and several magazines of ammunition entered a food court before began firing, according to Greenwood Police Department Chief Jim Ison.

The officer called 22-year-old who shot dead the attacker the real hero of the day.

Ison said the man hailing from nearby Bartholomew County was lawfully carrying a firearm and was able to stop the shooter as soon as he began firing.

Except for a man, four of those hit by the gunshots were females which included a 12-year-old girl.

The two injured including the girl are reportedly in stable condition.

Following the attack the police recovered a suspicious backpack in the bathroom near the food court.

Reporting another mass shooting in every few days, the USA is becoming increasingly unsafe.

Gun attacks happen nearly every place of civilian activity including schools, churches, stores, parks where people crowd.

The reality of America's staggering murder rate can often be seen more clearly in individual deaths that rarely make the news, AP reported.

Indianapolis Assistant Chief of Police Chris Bailey expressed his feeling of being 'sickened' by the gun violence happening in the US.
