Paris: The French government announced the tightening of entry restrictions from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and South Africa because of concerns about new variants of the coronavirus, on Sunday.

A 10-day compulsory quarantine will also be imposed on people entering the country from these countries starting from next week, reports dpa news agency. France will impose a 10-day quarantine on arrivals from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and South Africa

In addition, the travellers must hold proof for a negative coronavirus test not older than 36 hours.

The rule will also be applied to air travellers from its overseas territory of French Guiana.

France intends to create a system that allows for the verification of the location of passengers and then suggest corresponding quarantine requirements.

In addition, the travellers must hold proof of a negative coronavirus test not older than 36 hours.

Earlier, France had extended the suspension of all flights to Brazil, since the Brazilian variant known as P1, was found to be particularly virulent and blamed for a sharp rise in deaths in Brazil in March.

France, with a population of around 67 million, has been particularly hard-hit by the pandemic. A total of 100,563 people have died in the country as a result of Covid-19, while 5,321,176 were infected with the virus.
